Your property is approximately 12 -15 ft. in elevation below the
drainfield site with a steep cut bank on the property line. Your concern is that the drainfield, if
constructed on the site, could surface along the edge of the cut. Since the proposed
drainfield site is in Fairfax County I have no control over how it is 0,ed. The Commonwealth
of Virginia Sewage Handling and Disposal Regulations require that the soil absorption system
be at least 10 ft. away from the bank. As staked, the system is 12 ft. from the edge. As a
guide The Loudoun County Codified Ordinance requires a distance of 20 ft. from the edge of
the bank. However since the drainfield is in Fairfax, Loudoun County ordinances do not of
course apply. I recommend that you continue to make your concerns known to the
appropriate Environmental Health Specialist in Fairfax and I am certain they will do their best
to protect your property.
If you have any further questions or concerns with which I may be of help please let
me know.
Sincerely,
erry D.
