(6) Water quality impacts due to recharge from onsite sewage disposal units cannot <br />be predicted with certainty. Bacteria migration from properly sited, constructed <br />and maintained septic drainfields will be very limited. Nitrate-nitrogen <br />introduced to the subsurface by drainfields will be diluted in groundwater. <br />Alternate land uses, such as farming, may pose a greater threat of polluting <br />groundwater with nitrate-nitogen and other contaminants than onsite sewage <br />disposal systems. <br />(7) Individual home water treatment units are widely available and can be installed, if <br />necessary, to remove undesirable constituents (i.e., excessive concentrations of iron, <br />manganese, nitrate-nitrogen, or volatile organic chemicals) from a groundwater supply. <br />(8) Four wells at the site (two on Lot 31, one on Lot 4, and one on Lot 17) that were drilled <br />between October and December 1999 yielded less than the 1 gpm. Successful <br />replacement wells were drilled on Lots 31 and 4. A replacement well was not drilled <br />on Lot 17 during the study.
