EXECUTIVE SUMMARY <br />GeoTrans conducted a hydrogeologic investigation of the proposed <br />Ashby Farm subdivision approximately three miles north-northeast of <br />Round Hill on behalf of Mr. Mark A. Simmons and Mr. Geoffrey T. <br />Williams. Based on the results of literature review, well drilling, <br />aquifer testing, water quality sampling and analyses, and evaluation of <br />potential drawdowns and water-quality impacts, we conclude the <br />following: <br />(1) An adequate groundwater supply is available at the Ashby Farm <br />site to support development of 24 residences on the 142-acre property. <br />(2) Drawdowns to result from long-term domestic well pumping at <br />Ashby Farm will probably not exceed two feet on adjacent properties <br />' within 500 feet of the site perimeter. Drawdowns at greater distances <br />from the site will be even less. Drawdowns of less than two feet will <br />not adversely impact nearby drilled domestic wells that are in <br />' compliance with current construction standards. <br />' (3) Bacteria migration from properly sited, constructed, and <br />maintained drainfields will be very limited. Nitrate-nitrogen was not <br />' detected in groundwater (detection limit was 0.04 mg/L) at the two site <br />wells tested. Nitrate-nitrogen contributed to the subsurface by septic <br />drainfields will be diluted in the groundwater system. Alternate land <br />uses, such as farming, may pose a greater threat of polluting <br />groundwater with nitrate-nitrogen than onsite sewage treatment systems. <br />1 INTRODUCTION <br />' Mr. Simmons and Mr. Williams propose to develop Ashby Farm, a <br />subdivision consisting of 24 lots on 142 acres, approximately three <br />miles north-northeast of Round Hill on Route 719 (Figures 1 and 2).
