Kaster, <br />Soil Scientist, <br />Loudoun County. <br />RE: Suitability of soils for individual absorption fields for a sewage <br />disposal system. <br />As per your request, the following is a report on soil conditions rela- <br />tive to suitability for septic tank drainage fields on Lot 12, Section 2A <br />of the Richland Acres Subdivision. This lot is owned by Ar. Smith P. Kerr. <br />The soil on this lot,except for a small area in the southeast corner <br />adjacent to a small drainageway, is moderately well drained and developed <br />from the weathered products of red shale rock materials. This soil has a <br />light brown to pale brown friable silt loam surface soil and a yellowish - <br />red friable silty clay loam to silt loam subsoil. Faint mottles of pale <br />brown and pinkish-gray occur in the lower subsoil which is a good indication <br />of restricted internal drainage. Depth to relatively hard red shale that <br />appears not to be very well fractured ranges from 18 to 42 inches below the <br />surface of the ground. I would consider this soil as unfavorable in suit- <br />ability for septic tank drainage fields. <br />The soil adjacent to the small drainageway in the southeast corner of <br />this lot is somewhat poorly to moderately well drained and developed from <br />the weathered products of red shale rock materials. It has a yellowish - <br />brown friable silt loam surface soil a����`.t ellowish -brown friable silty <br />clay loam upper subsoil that is faintly -.wit pale brown. The lower sub- <br />soil (below 20 inches) contains a hardpan layer that is very slowly perme- <br />able to water. Consequently, I would consider this soil as unfavorable in <br />suitability for a septic tank drainage field. <br />DLK:bk <br />cc/ Mr. Turner <br />
